Managing the self-social tension: digital feminine self-production in an intimate public (awarded 2017)

I research the management of identity in a digital public hosted on Tumblr. This public is based on the circulation of reaction-GIF blogs authored by young women. While young women individually adopt branded practices to enhance their social value, the self is shaped into bite-sized moments of relatable experience, reinstating attachments to normativity as a central recognisable element of youthful, Western femininity.
